T J. Attendance & Tardy Policy
Thomas Jefferson High School is committed to excellence in learning. Good attendance and being on time are essential skills toward becoming prepared for college. In an effort to assure that all students are allowed the educational opportunities that they are due, we will be following the attendance and tardy policy below.
Our goal is to take advantage of all of the possible learning that we can. Being on time and in class every day allows students and teachers the opportunity to make the most of our learning time in order to be successful in working towards graduation and college
All students will be in the location that they are assigned before the bell rings and ready to learn. If students do not have a scheduled class they are not allowed to be in the hallways. Students need to report to the Lunchroom or Pass Room or make arrangements with adults. In other words, all students are in their classrooms prior to the bell ringing
CONSEQUENCES:
5 class tardies will result in one lunch detention period being assigned. Lunch detention will last for one entire lunch period. Students will spend 25 minutes in a classroom setting and then will be allowed to eat lunch.
10 class tardies or failure to appear for a detention will result in three lunch detentions.
15 class tardies will result in one week of lunch detention.
Students exceeding 15 tardies will be required to attend a conference with parents and will be placed on an attendance contract as well as attend Additional detention (night school or Saturday school) detention.
15 class unexcused period absences will result in two Additional detention (night school or Saturday school) detention as well as lunch detention everyday that same week. Student will be placed on an attendance contract and parents contacted.
Students exceeding 15 -20 and beyond unexcused period absences will be required to attend 2 Additional detention (night school or Saturday school) detentions, as well as lunch detention everyday that same week. Parents and student must conference with school officials.
Any additional unexcused absences beyond will result in automatic Additional detention (night school or Saturday school) sessions. Students who do not show up for their assigned detention will be required to have a parent conference or could face suspension from school or serious discipline actions taken against them.
